Church Leadership The members of the Board of Trustees and members of the various church committees are elected by the congregation at the annual corporate meeting. The Board of Trustees deals primarily with the fiscal matters of the church. It meets once a month, except July and August, and on an as needed basis. Committees of the board consist of auditing, budget, finance, house, insurance, legal, music and property. Special sub-committees may be established when needed and at the discretion of the board. The Standing Committee assists the pastor in caring for the spiritual interests of the church. This committee consists of the pastor, 18 deaconesses, 12 deacons, the church clerk, the treasurer of the Benevolence Committee, and the superintendent of the Sunday School. The Benevolence Committee promotes the benevolent work of the church, determines the causes to be aided and apportions monies to be disbursed for benevolent purposes. The Jermaine Gazader College Help Fund, administered by the Benevolence Committee, provides a scholarship stipend to members and/or their children each year that they are enrolled in an accredited institution of higher learning. The Music Committee has general charge of the music of the church. It recommends to the Board of Trustees the sum it deems necessary for carrying out the musical program of the church. The Religious Education Committee fosters the general interest of religious education in the church. It also functions in an advisory capacity to the officers of the Sunday School. The Nominating Committee begins its work in November. It gathers recommendations for officers and committees to be elected at the annual meeting of the church, which convenes the following March. The Membership Committee relishes its goal towards expanding membership and incorporating youth into the church’s activities. |
