Learning and growing together in the faith is a vital part of our life together. Flatbush-Tompkins is committed to following Jesus’ example set in the Gospel according to Matthew that children are special and we affirm their importance to God and the church.
Sunday School for ages 3 to adults is at 9:45 am. While the Adult education opportunity includes materials fostered around prayer, Bible study and discussions regarding Christian lifestyle, children from 3 years to teens will study about friendship, forgiveness, caring for each other and having hope among other things. On September 13th our 2009-2010 Sunday School year kicked off with our tenth Annual Pancake Breakfast! Classes officially started again on the 20th. Looking forward, we will have our annual Advent celebration on December 1st when we will be making Chrismon decorations and decorating two trees in the parlor. We the teachers of the Sunday School are blessed and truly appreciative of the honor to serve God and the Children of God by teaching the word of God.

Confirmation is an opportunity for youth between the ages of 12 and 15 to take responsibility for their own spiritual growth and development by learning more about their relationship with God and the church. The materials covered and the information disseminated are intended to prepare each candidate to be received as a full member of the church. Weekly classes are held over a period of approximately six weeks consisting of interactive sessions covering such topics as an overview of both the Old and New Testaments, foundational Christian beliefs, worship and the sacraments, church history, and the polity of the Congregational Church and Flatbush-Tompkins. Parents interested in enrolling your children, please call the church office.
Currently there are two weekly gatherings for Bible Study. The Pastor’s Bible Study, open to all, is held on Tuesday evenings at 7:30 pm and the For Men Only Bible Study is held on Thursday, also at 7:30 p.m. Both sessions are times in which the word of God is examined and discussed in order to gain a better understanding and greater knowledge of its relevancy and how to apply it to our daily lives. The topics are interesting and timely, the discussions are lively, and the insight is real. A Women’s Only Bible Study is held the first and third Thursday of every month at 7:00 p.m.
New Members Classes are held year round for those who are seeking to make Flatbush-Tompkins their church home. Classes are held on Sunday mornings for 3 weeks. Individuals completing all 3 classes are publicly accepted into membership during a first Sunday of the month worship service. If you are interested in joining the fellowship of Flatbush-Tompkins, please speak with Rev. Taylor or one of the Deacons or Deaconesses.
